FDA “bans” N-Acetyl Cysteine (NAC), a supplement that helps the immune system fight Covid

At about 24 minutes in, talk show host Steven Crowder discusses NAC (N-Acetyl Cysteine) in the video above, which was found to reduce the risk of mechanical ventilation and mortality in patients with Covid-19 pneumonia.

Crowder says, “There is a supplement out there, called NAC, N-Acetyl Cysteine. It’s an amino acid. And while we were live on air… we found out that it was banned. Or I guess to speak very clearly, the FDA reached out and threatened manufacturers who had been carrying this or distributors, saying ‘now it’s a drug’, which is unprecedented.”

In an piece written by a pharmacist, Florida news website the Marco Eagle highlighted the reasons NAC was going away:

“NAC is in trouble now, and thousands of brands of NAC supplements (including my own Immune Script which contains NAC as part of the blend) has been instantly removed from Amazon with no notice! And over time, every single brand of NAC will be gone from the Amazon marketplace, and millions of you will be unable to buy it as a supplement,” said author Suzy Cohen, a registered pharmacist.

Additionally, Natural Products Insider has been covering the news on NAC, and its latest article reports that the Natural Products Association (NPA) requested the FDA not exclude NAC from being a dietary supplement in a new citizen petition.

As of this time, NAC can still be found at The Vitamin Shoppe but may not be available for long. Read the latest at Natural Products Insider here.
